2011-2012 MERRITT COLLEGE MENS BASKETBALL TEAM

The start of the 2011-2012 Merritt College Men's Basketball Season is less than 2 weeks away.The expectations for success this season are extremely high. The Thunderbirds return 8 sophomores who had solid success last season, 2 red-shirted freshman who have matured mentally and physically and 2 of the top freshman recruits in Northern California. The Thunderbirds are primed to make a great run for the Bay Valley Conference Title as well as a long post season run.

The THUNDERBIRDS open up the preseason schedule against Hartnell College in the first round at the San Jose City College Tip Off Tournament November 10-12 at San Jose City College. SUMMER PREPERATION FOR THE 2011/2012 SEASON

Once again the summer brings a fresh start to Merritt College Men's Basketball program. There again will be high expectations for the 2011-2012 squad but summer preperation is neccessary to place the best foot forward toward accomplishing success. Keys positions that needed to be addressed in the off season were the point guard and post position. The 2011-2012 Thunderbirds have the potential to improve the team defense and rebounding dramatically. THE COMPLETION OF THE 2010/2011 THUNDERBIRD MEN'S BASKETBALL SEASON

The Thunderbirds finished the 2010-2011 season on a productive note accumulating a record of 19-11 overall and 8-5 in conference play. What is clear is that the Thunderbirds are headed in the right direction, and the 2011-2012 season brings even more promise of continued success.

IN THERE FINAL REGULAR SEASON GAME THE THUNDERBIRDS HEAD ACROSS TOWN TO PLAY THEIR RIVAL THE ALAMEDA COLLEGE COUGARS

The Thunderbirds took on their cross town rival the Alameda College Cougars and in a lethargic performance the Thunderbirds were defeated in there final regular season game Thunderbirds 71 Cougars 72.

William Tolefree-
led the Thunderbirds with 15 points 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

Saajid Polite-
had 14 points 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.

Richard Walker- had 10 points 8 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Roman Robinson had 10 points and 3 assists

THE THUNDERBIRDS ROLL PAST THE MARIN COLLEGE MARINERS BY 21

In the Thunderbirds final home game and sophomore night the Thunderbirds didn't let down the home crowd. At the end of the first half the Thunderbirds had a 16 point lead 31- 15. The second half was more of the same as the Thunderbirds rolled to a 78-57 win over the Marin College Mariners. Currently the Thunderbirds are 7-4 in conference play and 18-9 overall.


The Thunderbirds were led by:

(Sophomore) Joshua Hatcher who had 21 points 6 rebounds.

(Sophomore) Richard Walker had a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds

(Sophomore) Roman Robinson had 14 points and 5 rebounds.

(Sophomore) Saajid Polite had 10 points and 5 assists.

IN THE FINAL HOME GAME OF THE REGULAR SEASON THE THUNDERBIRDS TAKE ON THE MARIN COLLEGE MARINERS

In the final home game of the regular season the Thunderbirds take on the Marin College Mariners Friday Febuary 4, 2011. Please come and support your Thunderbirds in there final home game of the regular season. The women play at 5;30pm and the men play at 7;30pm.


General Admission is $5. Any fan wearing blue or gold gets in for $2 each. Groups of 5 or more get in for$1 each.

THE THUNDERBIRDS CRUISE BY THE CONTRA COSTA COLLEGE COMETS BY 34

The Thunderbirds cruised to victory over the Contra Costa Comets by 34 points. The final score Thunderbirds 77 Comets 43. All of the Thunderbird players on the roster contributed on the score board as well as on the stat sheet. The Thunderbirds had 5 players in double figures and 2 players had a double doubles. The Thunderbirds are 6-4 in conference and 17-9 overall. The hope is that the Thunderbirds continue their better play and finish the season strong going into the Conference playoffs and beyond.....

The Thunderbirds were led by:

Roman Robinson- had 13 points and 5 rebounds.

William Tolfree- had 12 points and 11 rebounds a double-double.

Tyler Idowu- had 11 points and 10 rebounds a double-double.

Saajid Polite- had 11 points 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.

Joshua Hatcher- had 11 points and 5 rebounds.
