THE THUNDERBIRDS TAKE ON THE OHLONE COLLEGE RENEGADES IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE SJCC COLLEGE TOURNAMENT DEC 12, 2013 AT 8 PM

The THUNDERBIRDS take on the Ohlone College Renegades in the first round of the San Jose City college Tournament Dec 12, 2013 at 8 pm. Please come and support your Merritt College THUNDERBIRDS!


The THUNDERBIRDS came up 3 points short vs the Ohlone College Renegades final score 83-80. Although the THUNDERBIRDS suffered a defeat the THUNDERBIRDS played better team basketball.

The THUNDEBIRDS were led by:

(SOPH) ANTHONY KNIGHT 22 POINTS 4 ASSISTS AND 4 REBOUNDS

(FROSH) MACEO BELL 14 POINTS AND 5 REBOUNDS

In the second round contest the THUNDERBIRDS took on there crosstown rival the Alameda College Cougars. The THUNDERBIRDS defeated the Cougars 95-87.

In the consolation championship the THUNDERBIRDS took on the Monterey Peninsula College Lobos and simply didn't come ready to play and lost the game final score 74-62.

THE THUNDERBIRDS LOSE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE TOURNAMENT

On November 29, 2013 the THUNDERBIRDS took on the Bakersfield College Renegades and defeated the host team 78-54. The THUNDERBIRDS displayed there best defensive showcase limiting the Renegades to 54 points.

(SOPHOMORE) ANTHONY KNIGHT 21 POINTS, 12 REBOUNDS AND 5 ASSISTS

(SOPHOMORE) DAVID ANDOH 17 POINTS, 8 REBOUNDS AND 2 BLOCKS

On November 30, 2013 in the championship game of the Bakersfield Tournament the THUNDERBIRDS took on the Alan Hancock Bulldogs and were defeated 82-79. The THUNDERBIRDS took 16 quick shots and shot 12/24 from the FT line in the second half. To win championships the THUNDERBIRDS have to be mental focus 40 minutes take quality shots and shoot 75% from the free throw line.

THE THUNDERBIRDS HEAD TO THE BAKERFIELD COLLEGE TOURNAMENT TO FACE THE BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE RENEGADES.

THE THUNDERBIRDS LOSE THE CONSLATION CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE SHASTA COLLEGE TOURNAMENT

The THUNDERBIRDS had some ups and downs this past weekend at the Shasta College Tournament. The THUNDERBIRDS completed the tournament 1-2.

Yesterday Sunday November 24, 2013 in the consolation championship the THUNDERBIRDS faced the Cabrillo College Seahawks. The THUNDERBIRDS had the lead with 40 sec to go in regulation  but emotionalism and poor shot selection took the game until overtime. In overtime poor shot selection and turnovers led to the THUNDERBIRDS defeat 83-76.


THE THUNDERBIRDS WERE LED BY:

(SOPHOMORE) JALIL EPPENGER HAD 20 POINTS AND 3 STEALS

(SOPHOMORE) DAVID ANDOH HAD 19 POINTS, 10 REBOUNDS AND 2 BLOCKS

Saturday November 23, 2013 in the 2 round game the THUNDERBIRDS defeated the Shasta College Knights 97-85.

THE THUNDERBIRDS WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE SJCC TIP OFF TOURNAMENT!


The THUNDERBIRDS scored 115 points in the early season and defeat the SJCC Jaguars 115-105 for the championship at the SJCC Tip Off Tournament. The THUNDERBIRDS played poised under heavy pressure and foul trouble. The 2013-2014 THUNDERBIRDS  are extremely hungry to win each game.

The THUNDERBIRDS were led by:

THE THUNDERBIRDS FACE SAN JOSE CITY COLLEGE JAGUARS IN SJCC TIP OFF TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

The THUNDERBIRDS face the SJCC Jaguars in the championship of the SJCC Tip off Tournament. The game is today at 4pm at San Jose City College. Please come and support your THUNDERBIRDS in the first championship game of the year.

The THUNDERBIRDS were strong on the defensive end and went into halftime up 31-29. In the second half the THUNDERBIRDS allowed 32 points and were able to score 50 points. The THUNDERBIRDS win in strong fashion 81-63.

THE THUNDERBIRDS FACE THE RIVERSIDE COLLEGE TIGERS TONIGHT FRIDAY AT 8 PM OF THE SJCC TIP OFF TOURNAMENT

The THUNDERBIRDS prepare a showdown as they take on the Riverside community college Tigers tonight at 8pm at the SJCC tip off tournament. Please come and show some support for you Merritt College THUNDERBIRDS!

THE THUNDERBIRDS DEFEAT THE MONTEREY COLLEGE LOBOS IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE SJCC TIP OFF TOURNAMENT


The THUNDERBIRDS came out in strong fashion in the season opener and defeated the MPC Lobos by the score of 94-75. The THUNDERBIRDS led at halftime 44-37. In the second half the game was close up to the 7 minute mark where the THUNDERBIRDS turned it up defensively which led to 50 points scored in the second half.

2013-2014 MERRITT COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS


 The THUNDERBIRDS are 2 days away from there first game of the season at the San Jose City College Tip Off Tournament. The THUNDERBIRDS open up the season this Thursday November 7, 2013 at 4pm vs the Monterey Peninsula College Lobos at 4pm at San Jose City College. The THUNDERBIRDS return 3 players from the State Final 4 team. Those players are 6"3 Sophomore Jalil Eppenger  (Berkeley HS), 6"2 Sophomore Marcus Green (Bishop O'dowd HS) and 6"2 Sophomore Anthony Knight (El Camino HS (SF) these 3 players will be key contributors and leaders of this year's team.

THE THUNDERBIRDS FIGHT HARD BUT LOSE A CLOSE ONE AT THE STATE FINAL FOUR

The THUNDERBIRDS started the game strong with a 7-0 run but the Mt. San Antonio College Mounties came back and had the THUNDERBIRDS down at halftime by 11. In the second half the Thunderbirds were down as much as 18 then made a 15-3 run to close within 6 points 3 times in the second half but ran out of gas... Final score THUNDERBIRDS 75 MT SAC 84. What is clear is this THUNDERBIRD squad made history this year as the first squad to make it to the state final four since the 1955 squad as well as the first #15 seeded team to make it the state final four. We wish all the sophomore THUNDERBIRDS good luck and thanks for such as special season!

THE THUNDERBIRDS PREPARE FOR THE MT. SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES AT THE STATE FINAL FOUR

The THUNDERBIRDS prepare for a dog fight with the Mt. San Antonio College Mounties from Walnut, California this in the first game of the state Final Four. Please come and support your THUNDERBIRDS in there second ever Final Four appearance last since the year 1958. The championship game will takes place this Friday March 15, 2013 at 5pm at Consumnes River College in Sacramento, Ca.

THE THUNDERBIRDS DEFEAT THE DELTA COLLEGE MUSTANGS 79-75 AND ARE IN THE STATE FINAL FOUR FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE SCHOOL HISTORY!!!

The THUNDERBIRDS came ready to play and defeated the Delta College Mustangs 79-75. The THUNDERBIRDS were up 11 points at halftime 35-24.  Delta came back in the contest but the THUNDERBIRDS were able to hold on for the victory and punched there ticket to state Final Four for the first time in history.

The THUNDERBIRDS picked the best time to played one of there best games of the 2012-13 season by defeating the #2 seeded 2012 state champion Fresno City College Rams by a score of 100-83. The contest was a collective team effort in which the THUNDERBIRDS out rebounded, turned over the ball only 8 times  and shot 87% from the free throw line. Thanks goes out to THUNDERBIRD faithful who made the long trip to see the THUNDERBIRDS in action down in Fresno.

THE THUNDERBIRDS WIN BY 1 IN THRILLING FASHION AT HOME IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA REGIONAL PLAYOFFS

In front of a packed THUNDERDOME the THUNDERBIRDS defeated the American River College Beavers with 12 seconds to go  63-62. The winning basket was a tip in by Marcos Castrillo with 5 secs left in the game. The THUNDERBIRDS played solid defense and displayed good ft shooting 21/26 for 81%. The THUNDERBIRDS must improve there offensive patience so that they reduce there team turnovers and gain a offensive rhythm.

THE THUNDERBIRDS WIN A NAIL BITTER IN OT 85-82 AT COLLEGE OF ALAMEDA

The THUNDERBIRDS were in cruise control and up close to 20 points with 8 minutes left. In a blink of an eye the Alameda College Cougars made a run and closed the THUNDERBIRD lead to 1 point. The THUNDERBIRDS missed there next shot and Alameda capitalized hitting a 3 pointer that put Alameda up 2 points with 7 seconds left in regulation. Joshua Amey went coast to coast for a bucket that tied the game at the end of regulation 79-79.  The THUNDERBIRDS again took control of the game in the overtime period and won Alameda 82 THUNDERBIRDS 85.
